The vast majority of wood used for timber blinds and shutters in America is basswood and poplar, both domestic hardwood species. As a hardwood Basswood has no resin to bleed through the finish as softwood does. Basswood is one of the lightest hardwoods, so there is no sagging problems from excessive weight that come with other hardwoods. Basswood has virtually no warpage, which is why it is used in pianos for soundboards. All these characteristics combined with the superior sanding and paint finish, gives you strong and light weight blinds with an elegant look that will compliment your décor whilst adding style and value to your home.
